Make the Most of #GivingTuesday

#GivingTuesday is only a few weeks away, so now is the time to ensure you’re ready to accept donations while receiving special charity processing rates to benefit your school.

#GivingTuesday is a movement created in 2012 to encourage donors to give time, money, or resources on a single, specific day.  It is held annually the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.  On last year’s #GivingTuesday, over 1 million people in 98 countries donated over $177 million. This year’s day of giving is November 28.   It’s time for schools to break out their best giving campaigns and make an impact for their causes – but planning starts now!  Let #GivingTuesday be the jump start you need for the giving season.

Here are some additional suggestions for #GivingTuesday:

  • Create an outreach campaign to encourage online donations for your school on November 28 with a financial goal in mind.

  • Engage social media by encouraging donor announcement hashtags on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Your greatest resources in giving are alumni.  Include them in the outreach campaign!

  • Remember that #GivingTuesday isn’t only about money.  Many schools also organize clothing and food drives or participate in volunteer fairs.  Whether the focus of your #GivingTuesday event is dollars, time, or resources, your school and community will benefit.
